What's New

The Swing Cat is ever scheming, ever sneaking into forbidden corners in search of great music. We continue to feature lots of hot swing, but our discovery of the phenomenal fiddling of don Juan Reynoso and his sons has led to the making of four CDs showcasing the fiery sounds of Tierra Caliente. We are tremendously proud to be able to offer these recordings. Don Juan is unquestionably a genius and the hottest fiddler of the Hot Lands, if not all of Mexico.

We are equally proud of our other new projects. The pairing of Texas fiddle legend Dick Barrett with Paul Anastasio has produced a fine set of western swing standards. Now folks who haven't had the chance to hear the skin-tight harmonies and inspired solos Paul and Dick have played for years in Weiser, Idaho during the big fiddlers' contest can pull up a chair for a ringside seat. A sparkling set recorded live at Seattle's Bumbershoot Arts Festival in 1997 and entitled Swingin' in Seattle...Live! is now also available on CD.

Swing Cat is actively involved as well with the re-release of great archival recordings. The Joe Venuti Quartet's Hot Swing Fiddle and Venuti Stories, never before released in this country, is now on CD. Joe was a world class character as well as a giant among jazz violinists, and this release reveals both his penchant for wacky practical jokes and his masterful and completely serious approach to the violin.

1998 also heralds the release of CD versions of the rest of the Swing Cat catalog. We know that many of you prefer the crystal clear sound of CDs, so here they are.

The Swing Cat thinks this is all pretty exciting stuff! Maybe not quite as exciting as canned food with catnip for dessert, but exciting nonetheless.
