Here we are at the very core of Crooked Worm's being. Music. Unlike most bands around, Crooked Worm's style seems unique. As is the case with just about any unknown band, people often ask us, "what kind of music do you play," or "what do you guys sound like?" And the answer is . . . well, there is no answer. We're certainly not without our influences, but it's so hard to categorize one's self, and we tend to resist it, probably for the same reasons everyone else does -- pride.
"I dunno," I tend to say. "Dark acoustic folk rock stuff with kind of an eastern slant and blues-ish tinge I guess."
Too unwieldy. I think I'll stick to 'unique.' Don't get us wrong. There are other artists that you'll hear in Crooked Worm -- influences, to be sure -- but we think that if you have a listen, you too may be pleasantly stumped when you try to describe our sound to someone else.
Crooked Worm has released two full-length albums -- Trash, and Imagination Game. The band has undergone some line-up changes over the years, and nailing down who played what on which songs on what albums can be a little tricky. Trash was released in 1997, but a good portion of the songs had been recorded in a session a year before. The earliest recordings on Trash were made with Zev and Wade on vocals and playing acoustic guitars, Joe playing Djembe, and Andy playing upright bass. In subsequent ones, Andy had been replaced by Rick on electric bass. By the time Imagination Game was recorded, the line-up was current with the one today -- Wade on vocals and acoustic guitar, Roo on electric guitar, Joe on the drum kit, and Rick on electric bass.
With that brief bit of information out of the way, let's get to the task at hand: Listening to the music. As of now, there are only a few of tracks from Trash available, but Imagination Game in it's entirety is here, complete with little preview clips for those of you who don't want to take a chance downloading the whole song in case you might not like it. They're organized by album, with Imagination Game's tracks in two columns, the left one being the shorter, low quality clip from the song. Maybe someday I'll put lyrics up here, if I can ever get Wade to write them down for me.
Download them now, while you have the chance. Sure, you don't get the cool CD insert and stuff, but at least it's free, and who knows how long that deal will be good for.

Note: The compressed, low-quality clips are compressed using Microsoft's ADPCM compression scheme, which is not near as widely used as I thought it was. You may not be able to play the clips. But, hey . . . but they're only like 200K . . . might as well try, eh? |
